Staff Appreciation Breakfast

First Staff Appreciation Breakfast – October 30!!

Our first Staff Appreciation Breakfast of the year is coming up on Wednesday, October 30. If you would like to participate, please bring a breakfast item, juice or coffee.  (The breakfast needs to accommodate approximately 80 hard working people). Here is an opportunity to send the Henry Ford teachers and staff big thank you for getting the year off to a great start.  Feel free to email if you need ideas or need to make arrangements to bring something the day before. Spread the word and thank you for your support!

Healthy Cities Tutoring

Healthy Cities Tutoring – Reach a child. Touch a Family. Build a community.

This past school year, 438 caring volunteers each gave the gift of their time to help the 508 children in our program. Our community of volunteers range in age from 14-96 and provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to students for 45 minutes per week to improve their academic performance, engagement in learning, and self-esteem. We expect the need for more volunteer tutors to grow at Henry Ford School and we hope you or someone you know will get involved in this rewarding volunteer experience. You will be able to choose your preferred time and age/grade of child for tutoring. Tutoring takes place at the school or in some cases, at a local public library.

Please mark your calendar for our annual training and orientation for new tutors which will be held on Wednesday, October 16, at White Oaks School, 1901 White Oak Way, San Carlos. There are two identical sessions, 8:30-10:30am OR 6:30-8:30pm. Please attend whichever one is most convenient for you. There will be a make-up training on Tuesday, October 22, in the Henry Ford School library from 6:30pm-7:30pm. We hope to see you there!

YES on Measure H

Measure H provides local funding for our elementary and middle schools that can’t be taken by the State.  Thanks to our supportive communities and high-quality teachers, local student achievement has continued to grow.  however, the fact remains that our elementary and middle schools are among the lowest funded in San Mateo County and are now facing a $10 million-dollar deficit due to state mandated cost increases.  Measure H will provide an additional source of stable local funding to protect our students from additional cuts in the classroom, where it matters most, and ensure they are ready for high school and their futures.

Protect student success by voting Yes on H in order to attract and retain high-quality teachers, support reading and writing skills, maintain science, technology, engineering and math instruction, and reduce K-1 class sizes.  Measure H is fiscally accountable.  The funds stay local and cannot be taken by the state.  No money can be used for administrator salaries.  Independent citizens’ oversight and annual audits ensure funds are spent as promised.  Senior citizen homeowners continue to be eligible for an exemption.  Measure H expires in 12 years and cannot be renewed without voter approval.
