KINDER TOURS
Hello Henry Ford Parent Ambassadors! Beginning January 11th, prospective families will be coming by for a tour of the campus with Principal Griffiths and to watch our amazing Kindergarten teachers in action. Many parents also enjoy hearing about the Henry Ford experience first-hand so if you’re able to spend 15 minutes answering questions at the end of the tour, it goes a long way.
Kinder Tours are scheduled for January 11, 15-17, 22-24, 28 – 30. Please meet by the school office a little before 9 am. Lynne will end tour groups there and introduce you then feel free to take the parents to an outdoor table or in the staff room to chat. Thanks!
Please consider sharing your enthusiasm about Henry Ford with one of these tour groups. Sign up here.
CORNERSTONE CORNER
Our book for this month is Trouble Talk by Trudy Ludwig. This book is about the power of words and ways they can be destructive. The main characters experience hurtful words within the guise of friendship and learn how to turn trouble talk into healthy talk. Healthy talk provides ways to use words in a helpful, constructive manner to build friendships. In today’s technological world, rumors can be spread anonymously and cause wide, irreparable damage. We must make choices to avoid causing harm as digital citizens.
Goals from this lesson include:
- Develop and maintain friendships with healthy talk.
- Empower each student to be a friendship role model.
- Learn how to make a genuine apology.
- Stop and THINK (is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?)
- Be an UPstander!
To reinforce this lesson at home:
- Remember that you are a role model in your home and community. Children watch everything you do and say.
- Remind your child the strategies discussed in class:
- Refuse to listen when friends are gossiping.
- Don’t repeat rumors or gossip to others.
- Question the accuracy of the rumor.
- Say something positive about the target of the rumor.
- Tell a trusted adult and discuss the options.
Today, rumors and gossip are often spread beyond the bathroom walls and into the digital world, which makes it possible for rumors to spread even further and even more quickly. To learn how to help your kids navigate this online world, visit the website of Common Sense Media at www.commonsensemedia.org

Connect with other Parents

All parents & caretakers are invited to join their classrooms’ group chats to stay in touch with others in their classroom through text, email, or the Remind app. You choose! It’s so handy for playdates, missed assignments, field trips, etc.
